Overview

This retail installation project was a collaborative effort between the Design Studio and Interactive Media courses. I was tasked with creating an interactive experience that showcases two distinct apps: a 360° Touchless Rotating Product App for a backpack/daypack and a Dual-Touchscreen Catalogue Ordering App. The overall objective was to design a seamless, engaging interface that allows users to interact with the product in a dynamic way while accessing additional retail information.

The brief emphasized simplicity and adherence to brand identity, ensuring the final comp is both visually engaging and highly functional. My design focused on intuitive navigation, vibrant visuals, and a clear division of interactive elements, resulting in a polished retail installation that enhances the in-store experience.

Tools Used

To create this retail installation, I utilized a variety of design tools to bring the interactive experience to life. I developed initial sketches and detailed digital mockups using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. These tools enabled me to design both the 360° product view and the dual-touchscreen catalogue interface in a way that is engaging and true to the brand identity.

360° Touchless Product App

This app provides a full 360° view of a backpack/daypack. Users interact with the product touchlessly, watching as it rotates and reveals key features. At specific stop-points, video overlays with schematic graphics appear to highlight details such as zipping pockets and other design innovations.

My process for this app involved creating a smooth rotation sequence by carefully sequencing a series of high-quality images. I then integrated short video overlays at key frames to explain the product’s unique features. Extensive testing ensured that the transition between static images and video overlays was seamless.

Dual-Touchscreen Catalogue Ordering App

This app is designed for in-store use and features a dual-screen interface. One touchscreen displays a catalogue of accessories, shoes/boots, and apparel ensembles, while the other shows detailed product highlights, including available colors and sizes, along with a dynamic shopping cart.

My process for this system involved designing an intuitive layout that connected both screens seamlessly. I created detailed digital mockups to ensure that the catalogue was easy to navigate and that the product highlight screen was both informative and visually engaging. The final design simulates a full ordering experience without actual e-commerce functionality.

Challenges

One of the main challenges was integrating two distinct interactive systems within a single retail installation. Creating a smooth 360° touchless product view that responds intuitively while also developing a dual-touchscreen catalogue ordering app required careful planning and precise execution.

Additionally, balancing multiple interactive elements and ensuring adherence to brand guidelines pushed my creative boundaries. Extensive testing and iterative refinements were necessary to optimize both performance and the overall visual harmony of the installation.

Final Product

The final product is an immersive retail installation that combines a 360° product app with a dual-touchscreen catalogue ordering system. Users can interact with the product to view it from all angles, while the catalogue system provides a realistic ordering simulation.

The installation successfully creates a dynamic in-store experience that is both engaging and visually appealing, effectively showcasing the innovative design solutions developed for this project.
